About Us

The Music Teachers' Association of California is an organization founded and incorporated in 1897  to promoted the welfare of the music teachers of the State, and to elevate the Educational and Teaching standards of its members.  The exacting qualifications for membership in the Association establish the member as a qualified accredited teacher in the community.

The WHITTIER BRANCH was chartered in 1955, with twenty-two active members.  Membership includes Instrumental and Vocal teachers, College Instructors, Composers, and Public School Music Teachers.

Members reside in many neighboring cities, including Downey, La Mirada, and La Habra Heights, Fullerton, Rowland Heights, Diamond Bar, Walnut, Anaheim, Cerritos, La Palma, Hacienda Heights  and Irvine. Our teachers provide instruction in piano, flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, organ, composition, and accompanying.

The Branch offers many musical opportunities to its students:  monthly Musicales; a Bach Festival;  the Certificate of Merit (a yearly state-run evaluation where top level students can attain prestigious awards);  Master Classes; Composers Today (original composition contest and evaluations); VOCE (an ensemble project for vocalists, pianists and orchestral instrumentalists);  and a Concerto Concert with a chance to perform a concerto with a professional orchestra.

Currently, the Branch has 55 Active Members, 1 Student Member, and 2 Contributory Members.
